The Beatles icon Sir Ringo Starr forced director Sir Sam Mendes to make changes to the script of his upcoming biopic. Sam is set to release four separate films featuring around each member of the band….

In a fascinating insight into the highly anticipated Beatles biopic project, Sir Ringo Starr has revealed he personally intervened to ensure the accuracy of his portrayal in director Sir Sam Mendes’ upcoming films. Mendes is set to release an ambitious four separate feature films, each focusing on the story of a different member of the iconic band, marking the first time Apple Corps Ltd. and The Beatles themselves have granted full life story and music rights for a scripted film series.

Ringo, now 84, disclosed that he insisted on script alterations after reading an early draft. “He had a writer, very good writer, great reputation, and he wrote it great, but it had nothing to do with Maureen and I,” Ringo stated, referring to his first wife, Maureen Cox. “That’s not how we were. I’d say, ‘We would never do that.'” This direct feedback from one of the central figures highlights the immense responsibility Mendes and his team bear in accurately depicting such a well-documented and beloved history.

The decision to involve Ringo (and presumably Paul McCartney, and the estates of John Lennon and George Harrison) directly in the script development underscores a commitment to authenticity from the production. It also speaks to the personal nature of the stories being told, particularly regarding the relationships and interactions within the band and their immediate circle. Barry Keoghan, who is cast as Ringo Starr, has reportedly spent time with the legendary drummer for a “Beatles bootcamp” to prepare for the role, further emphasizing the dedication to capturing the nuances of each Beatle.

The four films, which will also star Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, and Joe Quinn as George Harrison, are slated for a 2027 release. Sony Pictures has teased an “innovative release cadence” for the films, with a full schedule to be announced. Ringo’s involvement in refining his own narrative ensures that his perspective, direct from the source, will be reflected in this unprecedented cinematic event.
