The Boston Celtics have had a summer of change. The Celtics have been one of the more active teams this offseason, and not for good reason.

The Celtics have undergone numerous changes thus far, including the loss of three key players from their roster: Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis, and Luke Kornet. Boston is also in the process of losing their star big man, Al Horford.

Although Boston has endured numerous losses, they’ve made some solid additions, including forward Josh Minott.

Minott will make his way to Boston after spending his first three years with the Minnesota Timberwolves. The 22-year-old Florida native may not have played against Boston extensively, but he is familiar with the identity they have established for themselves over the past few seasons.

In a recent interview at the Las Vegas Summer League, Minott offered a candid assessment of the Celtics’ identity as he enters his first season with the team.

“They shoot a (expletive) ton of threes,” Minott said. “I’d say, overall, its their movement, being able to get down hill and create for others, all of that. It’s a bunch of little things.”

The Celtics have established an identity for themselves over the past few seasons, one that they have created, in which they are willing to take and make as many threes as they deem necessary.

This past season alone, the Celtics set a new NBA record for the most three-pointers made in a season. That is only half of the story. Boston also averaged around 48 attempts per game, which was far more than any other team.

Additionally, their win rate is highly correlated with their three-point shooting percentage. This past season, the Celtics made 1,457 threes.

Boston has, or at least had, the personnel to achieve that feat. Players like Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, and Payton Pritchard, to name a few, played a massive role in the three-point volume.

While those four players are still on the team, the Celtics won’t be without the best player of the four in Tatum.

Minott will now fill that role at least for this season. In his career, the former second-round pick averages 2.3 points per game, 1.0 rebounds, 0.3 assists and 0.3 steals in 93 career games.
