Metallica Pay Respect to Black Sabbath with Thunderous “Back to the Beginning” Set

 

 

 

 

 

 

The thrash masters covered Sabbath’s “Hole in the Sky” and “Johnny Blade” along with playing their own classics

had the honor of being the last band to perform before Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath at the “Back to the Beginning” concert in Birmingham, England, on Saturday (July 5th), marking the final performances of the latter two acts.

 

Frontman James Hetfield and company launched their set with a cover of Sabbath’s “Hole in the Sky,” before playing “Creeping Death” and “For Whom the Bell Tolls.” Metallica then took on Sabbath’s “Johnny Blade,” followed by “Battery” and “Master of Puppets.”

Metallica’s set followed performances by Guns N’ Roses, Slayer, Tool, Pantera, Gojira, and others, as well as a couple of all-star superjams featuring members of Rage Against the Machine, The Smashing Pumpkins, Ghost, Aerosmith, and more. See our complete coverage here.
